NZ Wireless Sector

"The current Internet gold rush will be dwarfed by what is about to happen with Wireless Internet access." The Economist, June 2000

Wireless and Broadband technological developments in New Zealand are ‘growing up’. Where once we were considered a small and isolated insignificant nation within the mobile and fixed wireless world, we are now emerging as one of the world’s best mobility/wireless/broadband testbeds.

New Zealand has become a beacon for advanced internet innovation. We have a deregulated environment, with multiple standards operating, a population of early adopters who are technology hungry and a competitive entrepreneurial spirit that ensures our technology, interface and application development is among the best in the world.

We must now take advantage of the opportunity to exploit our leadership, create international markets and develop global linkages that will build these emerging niche industries into a globally significant sector at the forefront of our information technology and telecommunications industries.

New Zealand’s strengths in many facets of wireless and broadband technology positions the sector to punch above its weight in delivering the high levels of growth demanded by the ICT Taskforce, established in response to the Government’s Growth and Innovation Framework.
